Musical Interests - Thriving Ivory

I have decided to start a new segment as a way to "introduce" the new creative element to this blog, named Musical Interests as the title has shown. Since I have been listening, reading, writing, and exploring so much content in the musical and poetic world, I thought I should share some of the "gems" I stumble across, sometimes well known or sometimes not. Let's talk music!

To keep things concise, we all have memories from when we grow up, and naturally a segment of these memories comes from the music we hear and the bands that our parents listen to around the house. Cat Stevens (break the damn taboo already), Bon Jovi,  Queen, and many classics (including classical music, which I both love and hate) comprise my more distant memories of music. More recently (perhaps six years at the most), there are the James Blunt car rides or Coldplay binges, coupled with a wider spectrum of music in general including country, folk, meringue, and many other genres. Overall, music has been a happy constant in my life.

One band that I had completely forgotten about however, and have only rediscovered recently, is the band Thriving Ivory, a sound that is definitely a familiar one to our home as we played them almost nonstop for months some years ago. From 2003 and onwards the band had released two albums and some singles, Angles on The Moon and Hey Lady some of the more well known and "hit" songs. We bought the albums, and loved every part of them. Thriving Ivory just has a unique sound in general, Scott Jason's amazing lyrics and Clayton Stroope's very interesting voice adding a refreshing sound to typical rock.

And then I found out they released an album in 2010, which somehow eluded my attention up until yesterday when I was reading their Wikipedia page (I do that for many bands now, it is always interesting). It showed the discography, and my mind was blown that there was a whole other set of music for me to listen to. Basically, it was a great highlight for the day, and I highly recommend checking out the music of Thriving Ivory. I have been listening to the old stuff and the new (new to me...it still came out in 2010), but the experience is the same as it was years ago.

So...That really is it for this blog post. I don't want to expand into a rant on how much I love their music, or turn it into an assignment where I write up a biography on every single detail about the musical journey of Thriving Ivory. I simply want to share some music I think is neat and a nice change to the monotony we have on current radio stations, and maybe give some readers out there something to listen to. Hope you guys check them out, and like them if you do.

Thanks!

-Tom
